The Challenge
A leading animal health company had amassed large volumes of molecular data and needed to develop diagnostics for target disease in cats and dogs. They faced challenges in managing, integrating and extracting value from thousands of proteomic, genomic and transcriptomic datasets.
Our Approach
We devised a FAIR data strategy, built a scalable multi‑omics integration platform and discovered novel biomarkers with a management roadmap.
- Data strategy & FAIR implementation: Enhanced data FAIRness, streamlined bioinformatics processes and catalogued all omics datasets across the organisation.
- Scalable multi‑omics integration: Implemented BioMx® to process and integrate thousands of datasets, enabling cross‑species and cross‑omics insights.
- Biomarker discovery & management roadmap: Identified a novel biomarker panel and delivered a three‑year roadmap including human‑to‑animal omics translation.
The Outcome
- Identified breakthrough biomarkers enabling early diagnosis and improved prognosis in companion animals.
- Provided a scalable multi‑omics infrastructure and a step‑wise plan to unify bioinformatics teams.
- Demonstrated how human‑to‑animal translation can enhance diagnostic capabilities in veterinary medicine.
Why It Matters
By integrating multi‑omics across species and implementing FAIR principles, this project brings veterinary diagnostics closer to the standard of human medicine. Early detection can improve treatment options and quality of life for millions of pets.
