Real-world data
Real-world data (RWD) are patient data that are routinely collected from a variety of sources outside typical clinical research settings. These include electronic health records (EHRs), patient-reported outcomes (PROs), claims and billing activities, product and disease registries, health-related data from mobile devices etc.
If handled and analyzed correctly, RWD holds tremendous potential to improve different aspects of the drug development life cycle. Optimisation of clinical trial design, assessment of long-term drug safety, outcome prediction and much more can be done using RWD.
